On May 22, 2010, Laszlo Hanyecz paid 10,000 BTC for two Papa John's pizzas. At today's prices, those pizzas cost roughly 830,000 BLTs. We celebrate this every year as Bitcoin Pizza Day — the first real-world Bitcoin transaction. Laszlo doesn't regret it, though. 'I wanted to show that Bitcoin could be used for real things,' he said. He was right. And now we measure Bitcoin's purchasing power in sandwiches instead of pizzas. Progress.
