Every 210,000 blocks (roughly 4 years), Bitcoin's block reward gets cut in half. In 2009, miners earned 50 BTC per block. Then 25. Then 12.5. Then 6.25. After the 2024 halving, it's 3.125 BTC. Imagine your favorite diner cutting your sandwich in half every 4 years, but the sandwich keeps getting more valuable. By 2140, the reward will be zero — all 21 million coins will have been mined. The kitchen will be closed, but the sandwiches will still be trading.
